Dr. Stephanie Jones

Dr. Stephanie Jones is an Assistant Professor at York University, Toronto, Canada. Her research is focused on transformations of atmospheric aerosols and environmentally relevant surface films.

Stephanie is originally from the UK and completed her undergraduate degree in chemistry at the University of Bristol, UK, where she first encountered the fascinating world of optical levitation. Following her degree, Stephanie spent some time working in industry and at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), a UK government laboratory. Stephanie then undertook a PhD in atmospheric chemistry specializing in the study of thin films on the surface of aerosols and their oxidation with Prof. Martin King (Royal Holloway University of London) and Dr. Andy Ward (Central Laser Facility, STFC). Following completion of her PhD, Stephanie moved to University of Victoria, Canada, to undertake a postdoctoral fellowship. She then moved back to the UK and worked for Laser Quantum, a laser manufacturer, before deciding to once again follow the academic path. She returned to Canada, this time to the University of Toronto, to pursue a second postdoctoral fellowship with Prof. Jamie Donaldson. Stephanie then moved to Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany, as an independent scientist funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) to continue research on photochemically induced transformations of brown carbon aerosol. Since February 2025, Stephanie has been an Assistant Professor at York University, Toronto, Canada.
